Exchange programme for undergraduate students of higher education institutions (Global Undergraduate Exchange Programme) 2024-2025

The Global UGRAD is a cultural exchange programme run by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and supported by the people of the United States of America.

Selection criteria: academic excellence, leadership potential, activity in public life, knowledge of written and spoken English, motivation and readiness to become a participant in the exchange programme.

Global UGRAD finalists will study for one academic semester without a degree at a university in the United States of America in any field of study, receive intensive English language training if necessary, and participate in volunteer activities, professional development seminars, and cultural enrichment events.

The programme for the finalists will begin in the United States in September 2024 or January 2025.

Financial support:
The programme provides the following financial support: travel to/from the United States, tuition fees at an American university, room and board, health insurance, required textbooks, and a monthly stipend

Requirements:
- Have Ukrainian citizenship, reside in Ukraine and study at a Ukrainian higher education institution in the 1-2 year (bachelor's degree programme) of the academic year 2023-24;
- Be over 18 years of age at the time of commencement of study in the United States;
- Be a full-time student of a bachelor's degree programme at a Ukrainian university of any form of ownership;
- Have a high level of academic achievement, social activity and leadership potential;
- Speak English at a level sufficient to study and communicate in an English-speaking academic environment;
- Be able to start studying in the United States in September 2024 or January 2025. Finalists cannot choose their own programme dates or postpone their participation in the programme to a later date;
- Upon completion of the programme, return to Ukraine and continue their studies at a Ukrainian university for at least one academic year;
- Meet the requirements for obtaining a J-1 visa to enter the United States

Applicants MUST submit a package of documents, which includes:
- An application form for participation in the exchange programme (all answers must be complete, all fields must be filled in in English);
- A copy of the first page of your international passport. Candidates who do not have a passport shall submit a copy of the internal passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
- Two letters of recommendation with a certified translation into English. One letter of recommendation should be from a teacher or supervisor from the university, the second letter may be from another teacher, employer, coach, coordinator of a previous exchange programme or volunteer/community activity. Each letter of recommendation must include the contact information (phone number, email address, etc.) of the recommender. Family members and friends cannot provide letters of recommendation.
- A certified copy of the academic record or an extract from the academic record for the entire period of study AND an official translation into English. The copy must be stamped by the issuing educational institution. The translation into English is certified by the institution that made the translation (educational institution or translation agency); ATTENTION: uncertified translations will not be considered.
- For first-year students, in addition to the academic record: Certified copies of the certificate of complete secondary education, the supplement to the certificate AND an official translation into English. The copy must be stamped by the issuing educational institution. The English translation must be certified by the institution that made the translation (educational institution or translation agency); ATTENTION: uncertified translations will not be considered.
- An official certificate stating the name of the educational institution, faculty and course of study of the student (without translation). The certificate is uploaded to the "Portfolio" section of the application form;
